I am a retired Early Childhood and Elementary school teacher with 36 years of experience. Wanting to fuel my passion for literacy, I completed the SLANT certification in 2001 and successfully integrated Structure Literacy practices into my classroom for over 2 decades. As a tutor, my priority is to design lessons that include research-based components but that are tailored to each child's specific needs. I take very detailed notes during the tutoring sessions and review them careful as I prepare the next lesson. I recognized the social emotional impact that delayed reading skills might have, navigating how I might need to make adjustments in the planning or in the moment during a lesson. Empowerment is interwoven in my interactions with students. I spend time explaining how the brain works, why they are learning specific strategies and how the English language is structured. I believe in continuous, immediate feedback regarding both successes and errors so that the student can internalize their growth. Helping children become competent, confident readers is my passion.
